Reflection is part of the journey
No matter where they may roam, heroes take time to reflect on their journey.
Exploring a wetland habitat
Heroes got their feet muddy and hands dirty while studying a wetland habitat with local naturalist Shawn Severance of Washtenaw County Parks.
Community Farm of AA partnership
Our partnership with Community Farm of Ann Arbor gives heroes the yearlong hands-on opportunity to work and study sustainable farming. This opportunity is made possible through a grant funded by the Southeast Michigan Stewardship Coalition of which we are a member.
Regular field trips
Acton heroes take regular field trips out of the studio via public bus transportation to experience the local community offerings.
Studying maps on U of M campus
We took map studies out of the textbook and into the Hatcher Graduate Library to visit the extensive map collection from all over the world.
Third Sister Lake of Saginaw Forest
Explorers trek through Saginaw Forest to learn the effects of PFAS on Third Sister Lake.
Exploring Downtown Ann Arbor
Walking the streets of Downtown Ann Arbor regularly awards our heroes infinite place-based learning opportunities.
What can be learned by farming? Problem solving, endurance, work ethic, sustainability, mindfulness, responsibility, reward not to mention SCIENCE!
Delving into the Heroes of Art
We take every opportunity to visit the offerings of local university campuses. The kind docents at The Museum of Art took our learners on a journey through "Heroes of Art."
Exploring the world around them gives our heroes a better sense of the world, sparking curiosity and developing tomorrow's innovators.
Gearing up for an outdoor adventure allows our learners to stretch their endurance, courage and imagination.
